About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Engineer to lead the delivery of a diverse portfolio of bridge and highway structure projects. This is a key role in ensuring the successful management of infrastructure investments, from concept through to construction, while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and cost control.
You will take charge of a varied and challenging workload, overseeing multiple projects that enhance and maintain vital transport links. Working closely with key stakeholders, including technical consultants, contractors, and local communities, you will ensure projects are delivered effectively, minimising disruption and maximising value.
Key Responsibilities
Act as Project Manager for a range of bridge and highway structure projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.
Oversee procurement processes, appointing and managing technical consultants and contractors to deliver effective solutions.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including CDM 2015 regulations and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
Administer contracts, including NEC4 forms, and oversee financial management of projects ranging from £50,000 to £50m.
Engage with local stakeholders, community representatives, and external organisations to ensure projects meet broader transport and infrastructure goals.
Provide expert technical advice, making engineering decisions on-site and overseeing all aspects of construction supervision.
Assist in strategic planning and long-term investment decisions for highway structures.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will be a results-driven professional with a strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure project management. You will be confident in managing multiple complex projects and leading teams of consultants and contractors.
Essential Skills & Experience:
MSc in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and membership of a recognised engineering institution (ICE, CIHT, etc.).
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it).
Significant experience in the delivery of bridge and highway structure projects.
Strong understanding of structural materials, behaviour, and design standards.
Proven track record in project management, with expertise in NEC contract administration.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external partners.
A full UK driving licence and ability to visit project sites as required.
Desirable:
Additional project management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, APM).
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil3D, or similar software.
Knowledge of local authority grant funding and procurement processes.
Welsh language skills or an interest in Welsh culture.
